Students who are interested in improving leadership skills can become involved in school politics and seek election to the Student Council. Students who wish to run for Student Council office must meet the criteria of the Council advisor. The Student Council consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Reporter, as well as classroom representatives. Each elected officer serves a one year term. With the guidance of their faculty advisor, the Student Council members act as the student governing body, and are instrumental in bridging the gap between the staff and the student body. The duties of the council members include school or community announcements, representing NAMS in a positive way, and delegating duties to classroom representatives. Each morning, Student Council officers lead the student body in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and read the morning announcements in the school gymnasium before the school-day begins. Student Council members are also involved in community service. Each year, the council sponsors the Middle School Beauty Review which raises a substantial amount of money to help finance the needs of our students. Additionally, the members of the Student Council present three students the “Bullpup Pride Award”. This award is presented as an incentive to encourage positive behavior, attendance, academic improvement, and self-pride.
